Processions of Semana Santa in Malaga - April 2017

The celebrations of Semana Santa in Malaga, Spain during the Easter Holy Week see the city taken over by processions of thousands with crowds of many more. The processions and spectacle in Malaga, with Seville, are possibly the biggest and most spectacular in Spain, continuing through the whole week and concluding each night at 4am in the morning. The processional thrones and gaudy and huge requiring as many as 200 bearers . The pointy hoods, or capirotes, are worn by penitents to maintain their anonymity, different colours being worn by the various brotherhoods who organise the processions.
