There was no plan other than to be in a handy place to get some fish and chips, but I found myself with the Lewes Borough Bonfire Society assembling a few yards away. We were on the route of the main processions, but not right in the centre. The vantage point turned out to be an excellent choice with 5 different bonfire societies noisily passing by. Photos of the other societies are here - but this page is devoted to the Borough Bonfire Society who filed by no fewer than three times.
In the build up, the Borough Bonfire Society had been in the press with the story of their Zulu costumed contingent "blacking up". You can make your own mind up on this issue by looking at the huge range of costumes on show. You'll also see members of a Zulu dance troupe who attended - it seems some members of the Borough Bonfire Society modified their appearance to take account of their comments while some may not have. And a pot of Zulux would be burned with the effigy of Kim Jong-un - a humorous touch or two fingers to modern sensibilities?
