On our way to Scotland we had an enjoyable stay with friends who live in a house a few yards from the sea in Cullercoats, between Tynemouth and Whitely Bay. We took a short drive up the coast to visit St. Mary's Lighthouse and take a walk along the North Sea Coast.

A few yards out of the front door is this great view across Cullercoats Bay towards Tynemouth Abbey (from my phone)

The causeway to St Mary's Island spends about a quarter of each day  under water

A fine Sunday afternoon, but still the beaches were virtually empty
